Memories of a fantastic trip
This is no ordinary blog entry.
This is a momento for Kenny and I, memories of our very first honeymoon of sorts, stuff that hopefully we can remember forever by documenting it on this blog.
Special thanks to dear for volunteering to help me with the photos, shrinking them and trying all sorts of methods to send them to me.. Thanks for staying up till 2am for this.. Thanks for all the effort you put in for me.. You're the greatest.

Before the flight at 4.45pm, my family and I headed down to Swensen's at Terminal 1, cos I offered to give them a treat there before I went to Thailand.. This Swensen's has always been special to us, because we used to go there alot, when we were alot younger, and I was just thinking, since I had to go to T1 aniwae, so might as well give my dear family members a good treat!
Except for some parts of the restaurant looking alot newer, I suppose everything hasn't changed since I last came.. Even the lights are still the same, cos I suppose it's the Swensen's thing:

I've always liked this place, ever since I was young.. So glad to be back there again, though the bill was $80, but quite cheap cos we ordered 4 sets.. The food wasn't fantastic, but then again, Swensen's was never famous for their food.. But the sets were good in the sense that there was a drink, a scoop of ice cream and a soup in addition to the main course.. Yum yum full full..
 |
My brother has damn shaky hands |
After like 3 tries, he finally gets it right,
but mummy isn't smiling!
=( |
 |
Hehe.. I love my mummy!
Then the flight was at 4.45 pm, but I met Kenny and his er jie and his mum at 3pm at the Thai Airways check-in counter, since they wanted to shop in the duty free area for cosmetics and perfume before we boarded the flight..
First time our mums met each other even though dear and I have been together for almost 3 years now, and it was okay lah, not too awkward =) hehe..
So awhile later I said bye bye to mummy who wasn't feeling too well, and we went in to the duty free place, whatever you called it.. But dear and I weren't too interested in the perfumes and cosmetics and stuff so we didn't really look around lah.. But I did try to draw his attention to the jewellery shop though hehe =X
We boarded the flight relatively late, since dear didn't really like the smell of the aircraft. I was like, "What smell? Where got smell?" Maybe I don't notice cos I love flying, and everything else is too exciting for me to notice any smell. But honestly, I tried hard to try and smell the smell, but no smell! Haha.
 |
Dear doesn't like the aircraft smell. |
| Look! Our complexions look flawless! The lighting in planes does your skin wonders! |
 |
Aiyah but dear is a major spoilsport sometimes lor.. He only know how to sleep..

Don't know how to appreciate flying and the marvellous view from the aeroplane window.. Look at it!
And this one is very cute, looks like fingers:

I do believe these clouds belong to Malaysia.
Energetic Pris is raring to go!! I love holidays!
We arrived at Hat Yai at around 5pm local time (6pm Singapore time), and the Hat Yai International Airport was a far cry from our Changi Airport lor! It was really tiny, and the only people around, it seemed, was the passengers on the same flight as us, TG408! But still must wait very long since there was only 2 counters. Blah.
I jumped queue to a counter that accepted only Thailand passports, since there was no one queuing there, and some Singaporeans already passed through there le. So I followed them, and there was this Thai man serving me lah. But he's like damn hum sup, only accepted my passport, and asked another man behind me to rejoin the queue at the "Intenational Passport" lines. Haha. It pays to be female.
Then we headed straight to our hotel, The Regency, right smack in the middle of tiny Hat Yai.
On our way to the hotel, the view from the van we were in was great.. My first glimpse of life in Hat Yai.. Looked pretty much like Malaysia, except that there were many many cows grazing in the fields at the sides of the road.. But rather skinny cows lah.. But dear and I were wondering why they're so skinny even though they are practically surrounded by grass and more grass lor.. Then dear's mum suggested that maybe they work very hard in the fields, that's why they're thin.. Yup, guess so..
Finally after a 20 min drive, we reached our hotel, a tall and clean building quite incongruous with the more modest surroundings.
| View of The Regency |
 |
 |
But people not bad ok!
McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Sizzler, Swensen's..
You name it, they've got it! |
But the rest of the places are more modest already..
Simple people living simple lives lor.. |
 |
One thing about Hat Yai is that you have to be damn quick on your feet, because the roads are filled with Tuk Tuks, cars and motorbikes, and zebra crossing and traffic lights are just mere ornaments decorating the roads lor.. It seems like when you reach traffic lights, you can always turn left or right even though the lights are red, and better still, give thanks when the vehicles actually stop at the red lights, cos they seldom do.
I saved dear's life once or twice, and in return he saved mine, and dear's mum also saved my life once. Haha.
|
Not much use for these in Hat Yai! |
 |
 |
Oh! Right outside our hotel, there's a restaurant where they serve suckling pigs (or rather, piglets) and dear kept obsessing about taking photos of 3 pigs and naming them the 3 little pigs or something lah, I dunno he's so strange.. But in the end, I only took this:
 |
Interesting right? Not many people roast pigs in the middle of the road.
And this one's for you dear:
The 3 little pigs and their new siblings escaped the big bad wolf, but didn't escape the suckling-pig-roasting-man.
The End. |
Here's pics of us in the hotel lobby, fooling around like kids while the adults were checking in:
 |
How Christmassy! |
| Happy! |
 |
 |
I love this pic! Even though it's blur =( |
Our room!
How nice! |
 |
After freshening up, we headed downstairs, which was already downtown Hat Yai, for dinner and some good 'ol shopping! Muahahaha.
Dinner was here!

Food was like normal Singaporean dishes lor, tofu with mixed veggie (2 plates), pig intestines (2 plates), veg, otah, tom yam soup (which was very yummy according to dear and his family, I dunno, os it just tasted like its spicy and sour, no comments =X) All yummy stuff.. We ordered like alot lor.. Hungry..
There was this tiny tank with one lone shark in it, and it was a rather small rectangular tank, and according to dear who told me once that sharks cannot stop swimming, even when they're asleep or something, this poor shark was swimming and swimming non-stop throughout our stay there.. And it was damn funny to watch lor cos everytime it hit the glass while swimming, it would twitch, and to put it bluntly he looked quite retarded lah.. Haha..
Then more shopping after dinner, during which I bought a watch for myself.. Those nice unique copper ones that they do sell in Singapore, but more expensive lah.. My first buy: 150 baht..
Then we headed back to the hotel for an early night, cos it pays to be safe than sorry lah.. Don't want to be wandering on the streets in strange city when you're a tourist. Plus the shops close pretty early too, around 7 or 8pm..
Dear and I just lazed around the room, talking, watching tv and doing some reading, and surprisingly, I fell alseep quite easily! Haha.. I always fall asleep easier when dear is next to me..

Bright and early 8am Singapore time we were awake, and as always it's irritating darling waking me up cos I always have a problem getting up and he doesn't and he's damn irritating when he wakes me up.. Like crush me with his weight, shake me, and go:
"dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up dear wake up..."
Check this out:

This was the grand amount of toothpaste we managed to squeeze out from the almost empty tube of toothpaste er jie brought.. Sad sad sad sad sad.. Imagine our breaths that day.. Phew!! =P
We headed down for breakfast at our hotel restaurant, and we were expecting a crowd, as with normal hotel restaurants in the morning.. Like the once dear and I stayed at the Meritus Mandarin in town, and we had to queue to get into the bloody restaurant.. But look:

Nobody! Except dear in the picture.. Haha.
So basically it was one full buffet table set for 4 hotel guests. Thank you very much. I love your services.
Hah. But the food wasn't too bad.. But halfway through we saw the chef come out from the kitchen and shake his head when he saw the food barely touched.. Poor chef. We tried.
Before we headed out:
 |
I have a thing for Christmas trees... |
How can you say that you have visited Thailand without taking a ride on their Tuk Tuks??
 |
Our Tuk Tuk! |
Dear and I on the Tuk Tuk..
He loves this photo!
Me too! |
 |
We headed on the Tuk Tuk to our first stop for the day, a wet market at Montri Road, where the things are said to be cheaper lah, since it is a market after all, and this market is my favourite, cos they have tonnes and tonnes of shoes, bags and clothes! But the people there are really sharks, anyhow quote prices, and I think darling and I bargained too much, so we didn't really buy much.. Only bought 1 top for mummy and 1 pair of pink slippers from 280 baht down to 120 baht.. =)
I probably shouldn't laugh at this, but check out the faux pas that I chanced upon:
 |
Liver Strauss??
Haha ok. |
This is on the hotel room card.
Dear is not allowed inside the hotel "permit"
=P |
 |
But what dear chanced upon was the best! You know "Finding Nemo"?
The thai version is....
*drumroll*
Fishing Momo!!
 |
Look!
Nice pink eggs!
How special.. |
Then me and dear were made to wait for er jie and auntie while they went in search of yummy local food to bring home, and as we were waiting near the bank (under the watchful and wary eye of the bank security guard, cos we were standing damn close and suspiciously to the bank and we look kinda strange) I realised that the sun was so hot that my toes were burning!
 |
Don't think you can really tell, but the tips of my toes were bright red!
Haha. |
Some sights while we were waiting:
| People looking at us strangely |
 |
 |
Damn crowded street |
| Just some random building on the street.. |
 |
 |
Outside a medicine wholesaler where we waited for a good half an hour for 10 dozen bottles of medicated oil |
Dear's mum wanted to bring them to China for the monks to use, so at first they say got got got ask us to wait for 15 mins, then it turned out to be more than half an hour lor! Bleah!
Dear was reduced to this state:

Sitting on the floor, eating longans.. Hehe.. So dirty piggy.
| But it was a good rest lah, nice and windy, especially after spending more than 2 hours shopping at the wet market.. |
 |
On our way to Kim Yong market (another wet market), saw lotsa these on the streets:
 |
Turns out it's the King's birthday today! Dec 5!
Happy Birthday! =) |
I know the Thais respect their king alot, but wonder if they have these statues on the streets all of the year, or just when his birthday is nearing?
Kim Yong market was boring! Just some foodstuff.. No shopping done there:
| Dark dank market, and when I was taking this photo, a damn mosquito bit me! |
 |
 |
Nice pretty shiny cloth! |
On the way back to the hotel room to put down our load, I saw a little piece of home!

Singapore Hotel!
But at least get the Chinese correct lah, uncle!

Quite a sad affair.. Tiny hotel..
Next up: Lunch at the Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel, a stone throw away from The Regency!

It's the Sky Buffet thing I think about 120 baht per head, which translates to roughly 5 sing bucks, but the food was yummi-licious!! Highly recommended! 4 out of 5 stars!
 |
The food..
Yummy.. |
The dessert...
Delicious!
And not to mention cute.
And see the colourful stuff at the bottom of the pic? They sell these in Thai restaurants in Singapore.. But $3.50 for 10 lor! We had them free flow at the buffet lor!
Damn yummy that stuff..
Dear's always telling me how yummy they are.. Only found out for myself today.. |
 |
 |
And the view from the top..
Breathtaking.. |
 |
Before we tucked in.. |
All these make us 4 very happy customers, even though we didn't manage to successfully convince the staff that dear's mum was over 65 so that she could get a discount. Damn! But in the end, the discount was only for a few Singapore cents, so what the hell, we were damn happy customers still!
 |
First group photo!
Awww..
Group hug!! |
| Check out me happily eating the damn nice dessert thingy! |
 |
 |
Nice photo.
Though when dear took it he kept saying that it was worthy of mention in the movie "Shutter" cos what he saw on the screen was the white line on my head dividing my body into two..
Haha. |
After lunch dear's mum went back to the hotel to rest after our long day, but er jie, kenny and I were still raring to go!! Shopping I mean!! Haha.. We ditched er jie along the way cos she wanted to see different things from us, and so we headed to the Odean Departmental Store, and I bought an original Levi's shirt for my bro for 621 baht! Damn ex, but still cheaper than Singapore.. And dear bought a damn nice sleeveless tee that he looked damn good in lah.. Reebok I think.. Know that he has been working hard on toning up and all that, so he looks good in anything! And he was so happy!
But ah. One thing. There was a guy in lipstick who showed apparent interest in my guy. %@&*! In front of me?? So eager to serve him and show him the clothes lor.. Bleah!
Then we buay tahan already headed back to the hotel for a rest, and took some pics!

Nice view of the city huh?
Dear looks like a little boy in this one..
So cute! |
 |
And because we are young and energetic, we went swimming! Haha. Partly because we felt damn dirty, but were too lazy to bathe, so swimming was a good way of getting clean! Muahahahah.. We had loads of fun swimming lor.. Swimming is always fun with dear, cos he will piggy-back me here and there.. Hehe.. But the water like not very clean lah, and smart me swam without putting my head underwater and dear still say I look like a doggy, but in the end his eyes red red later.. See lah.. Always listen to Wise Priscilla.
We wanted to visit the gym for a workout too, but found out later that it costs 50 baht, and we didn't have a penny on us, so we just went back to the room and slacked till dinner time..
Dinner was yummy (and sweet) beef noodles soup, or rather, beef bee hoon soup, which unfortunately I didn't take photos of, and then dear and I walked around on our own for a little bit more, shoppaholic us.. And then we stopped for rather long at the jie lian huan store, where this nice girl has been tending the stall ever since Kenny could remember the last few times he was here.. She was nice and chatted with us, but we didn't buy anything from her cos her wares were like damn ex!
On the streets:
 |
Colourful phone in nice phone booth..
|
And of course, being the McDonald's fan that I am, of course I gotta try Hat Yai fries lah! 40 baht for a large fries:

Their outlet there was damn big and nice, and even had this:

How nice.. Dear wanted to play.. Haha..
Dear was pretty hungry too, so we stopped for chendol:
 |
But the chendol like bluff people one.. Only got the green jelly stuff..
But still,
very yummy. |
Then back at the hotel, at first dear scolded me for always eating fries, but then later he was the one who was hogging the fries while watching tv lor!
I think we were watching Fear Factor and Survivor that night.. On our favourite channel in Hat Yai, NTV7 or something..
It's nice to watch a show like Fear Factor with someone.. Better than watching it alone like I always do..
Another fun day came to an end.. I couldn't really sleep that night, cos I was probably too tired.. Could feel dearie twitching from my side of the bed.. Hugged him real tight and managed to fall asleep like that.. =)

Hi all! This is not Pris but Kenny who's working on the 3rd day of the Blog entry! Yeah think I should do my part to contribute to this wonderful and memorable trip for the 2 of us.. To all couples out there : Do go on a trip, doesn't matter short or long or far or near, with each other! It's a great feeling to have loads of fun with each other around~ Oh well to the main part...
Day 3
Today we were supposed to tour all the famous temples in Hat Yai. Hope Pris enjoyed the sights! We were to be ferried by a Mr Seng ( mind you its not a lousy Tuk Tuk but a 13 yr ol Toyota that can bring shame to those new gadgetty cars nowadays! ) He's a jolly fella who's 65 but still in good health and he can speak fluent Teochew so no prob on communications!
This is the Toyota we were in~
Not too shabby for 600 baht ( ~ $25) which covers a full day trip!
First stop we went to the magnificent Glass Temple (ard 45 min ride) which was entirely made up of Glass bottles. According to Mr Seng, the temple took 10+ Yrs to complete and whoa...It was a sight to behold!
Alighting, we were greeted by a group of doggies which I shall highlight later again.
Miss Careless standing near the Glass Bottles!!
More of the magnificent architectural wonders:
Well after all the walking, we decided to feed the poor fishies inside a really big pond.
My mom initially bought 4 packets of fish food...but guess what happened after the initial throw....
Man! the poor fishies were scrambling all over each other just to have a bite! And guess why.. Normally they were pretty well fed cos the Glass Temple is pretty much a tourist attraction. But with all the media hoo hah that South Thai is waging a civil war and crap, the tourists weren't there to feed them.. My appeal to all who are reading, PLS do not believe what the stupid media is trying to say... I've been there and Hat Yai is as safe as any place in Singapore!
Mom decided to buy 10 more packets of the food to throw to the poor fishies and guess who came along...
No no not the kid...The dogs!! all the poor things didn't have enough to eat and so they scrambled for the fish food.. Poor thingS! Miss Kind here declared out loud that she hates fishies so she shall buy one more pack of food for the doggies...
Check this out!
Yeah and poor Raggedy Dog there was acting dead when we arrived... When food came he jumped right up and started performing stunts man! Tsk.. Even dogs are street smart there...
Next stop! We travelled for a good half hr and we arrived at the 4 faced Buddha.
There, we saw lil birdies who were caught to be sold for freedom... I tried damn hard to tell them the story about the king who said he will free 10000 birds, resulting in people starting to catch all sorta birds, but they won't listen! But oh well anyway the guy there said they don't catch birdies near the 4 faced Buddha so i guess those who just flew off won't be caught...
See them flying away makes us happy~ Fly Birdie Fly!
Ok done there~ We moved on for 10 min to the REALLY majestic sight of a standing Buddha! The sight was awesome especially against the overcast~ Check out how big the Buddha is against my tiny sister and mom!
There was a story behind this standing Buddha. As it was too big, the legs were made first and slowly added up to the torso then the head. Thus for all who went before, if you ever remember seeing a pair of Buddha feet only, this is the final result~!
Turning behind was a great breathtaking view of Hat Yai~

Cool huh!
Next stop was the temple of the Benevolent Guan Yin. Another great statue that was awesome!
Check it out!
Then below us was a great big Dragon mouth in which led us to 2 other Buddha, the Jade Emperor (which I mistook for the fortune God... stupid me..) and the Laughing Buddha!
The big Dragon mouth! and The Laughing Buddha at the background~
And the Jade Emperor ( remember guys that the Fortune God holds a gold nugget and 2 more long thingy sticking outta the crown! )
Yepp~ After all the running around... We were RAVENOUS... so decided to have a pit stop at another beef soup store... This one is better than the last one! It's more tasty and so greedy me had 2 servings and 2 bowls of rice! Check out the empty bowls on the left... THEY'RE MINE!!! Muahahaha...
Back to the final temple we went, another huge statue of the Sleeping Buddha!
Not much to highligh around here but for a tiny white dog that Pris kept calling "Roxie! Roxie!".. She's abit off the balanced side...
The so-called Roxie!
Well when we first arrived in Hat Yai, we saw a statue of a mermaid and we were wondering what has Little Mermaid gotta do with the Thai people~ Then we found out in our next destination: the Beach!

According to the tablet next to the statue, it was according to a legend that a beautiful mermaid was combing her beautiful hair under a starry night. A fisherman chanced upon her and frightened her away but he waited for her return...And as it went she didn't come back! Talk about a bad fishing day~
Another statue nearby (The Thais love statues...) of a really big cat and a mouse has another legend but I shall not bore you guys with it~
Walking on, I discovered a really yummy store that sells coconut ice cream with lotsa yummy coating like peanut, bread and gluttinous rice! Oh one point.. People pls take note... The people there thrive on tourists so they can smell you a mile away... And they love to "cut vegetable heads" so DO NOT be tricked! Go to shops with prices stated or prices you have a rough gauge of already!
As I was munching the yummilicious ice cream, a really poor dog came up to me and went "ahwooo..." She was SO poor thing! She was begging to have my ice cream and so I threw all the bread I had to her.. Judging by her tummy she just gave birth... :( Pls love your doggies more and don't treat them badly k...
The poor thingy.. So poor thing
Since we couldn't do much, we just left poor doggy there and went ahead to a foodie wholesaler! Better hope you had treated Pris or me nicely! :)
Next we went to Robinsons (Yeah it's correct ROBINSONS! But its in green where Singapore has theirs in red), where I bought 2 more REAL and ORIGINAL Adidas shirt... And Miss Dilemma was contemplating on whether to get a pretty nice jacket for 1000 baht ( ~ $41)... She took around 45 min loh! I could almost see her torn inside on whether it's worth it hahaha~ But yeah in the end she didn't...
After Robinsons, we went back to the hotel already~ Decided to have dinner at a really yummy store serving Hokkien Mee and Hor Fun... Super nice loh! You'll never find anything like THAT in Singapore!~...
And you will NEVER see this ever in Singapore too!
Cool CAR!? Yeah... But on a closer look at the words on the rear window....
Not too cool already... Cuckoo Cuckoo....
Yep! And so it concludes the really nice and tiring day of Day 3~ As usual we watched some show about some award winning circus acts and everything went silent after that~ ZZzzzz...

HAH!
And you guys thought I was dead! That's why Kenny is writing the entry!
Haha.. Here's my side of the story.
This morning, NO MORE STINKY BREATH!! Haha.. Thanks to this:
 |
One whole full tube of toothpaste!!
I love toothpaste!
Toothpaste is good for you!! |
And actually, the trip to the glass temple took exactly 1 hour, but piggy dear got it wrong.. Why? No prizes for getting it right:
Asleep.
Again. |
 |
I think dear forgot to mention that very close to the Glass Temple, we saw a pack of dogs in the middle of the road, blocking our car, and 2 of them were.. erhem.. copulating. Quite an unexpected sight. Erhem.
 |
Dear's mum and me at the entrance of the temple!
If you look closely you can see some broken bottles.. |
Dear didn't mention it in his entry, but I love this boy:
He's the son of one of the vendors at the temple selling fishy food..
He is so cute. |
 |
Even though we didn't speak to each other, because we didn't understand each other, but I guess we connected beyond the language barrier..
I first saw him when we climbed up this part of the temple, which was actually made up of many such buildings:
 |
Pretty?
10 whole years of hard work!
And it's very sturdy lor! |
He was there with his elder sister, who's about a year older than him, and when I smiled at him and waved he giggled and ran away to hide. SO cute..
Then, outside, I beckoned him to come over but he dowan! For a long time! And he kept screaming and giggling and running away from me!
Then later he wanted to play with me, but I had to follow the rest of the group to where they were walking to to feed the fish in a large pond or should I say lake.
Until we were feeding the fishies, and he turned up:

Kenny's mum bought packets and packets of fish food to feed them lor! I thought that was a very nice gesture cos she bought mountains of them! Haha had so much fun feeding the fishes, until the doggies came along! Then of cos doggies are more important than fish, so I had a damn fun time feeding the doggies lor!!
Here's some of my favourites:
 |
This one is my favourite!!
She's a very mild and timid dog, and is very very wary of humans, so it took quite awhile for her to come so close to me to eat the food I gave her!
Everytime I gave her some food, I had to take 2 large steps back before she eats lor! |
This is my fav together with another fiercer doggie we named "Naughty Girl" cos she's really naughty and she keeps growling at my doggie and stealing her food!
You can recognise her by the tuft of messy hair on her back.. |
 |
 |
And my boy boy specially posed for me in this pic lor! He looked at me, then made the doggie stand, and did the trick for me!
I love that boy! |
And about this naughty white dog above, yah at first when we came we thought it was sick, cos it was lying in the middle of the road looking real poor thing. We named it "zhang lao" or village elder, cos it was just lying there majestically, looking really important (but sick).. So we thought it was very poor thing and took special care to give him his very own big pile of food lah..
So imagine my shock when he suddenly got up and did the trick!!!!! BAH!! I feel cheated!! Hahaha.. Dear and his family were inside the temple praying so I thought I'd just stay outside and buy another packet of food to feed the dogs lah, cos some new dogs came along who didn't get any to eat.. And when I saw this, my eyes popped out:
| Naughty fake dog! |
 |
Hahaha.. Didn't wanna leave there, cos I really do love that little boy.. Sigh.. But we had to go.. Nearly cried there, but nobody knew lah.. Haha silly me.. But I managed to take a photo with him though!

Bye bye little boy, take care!!
Next was to the temple where we released birdies! It was really damn fun and really nice to see birds getting set free by your own hands lor! And dear's mum actually spent 700 baht (S$30) and bought ALL of the birds that the man was selling lor! What wonderful people.. (Really, from the bottom of my heart, not curry-favouring)
And I took it upon myself to protect the birdies from the rain!
 |
Hur hur..
*Cheep cheep* |
Aniwae, so you guys saw the white dog who went "ahwooo" at Kenny right? And he put up a picture right? What u guys didn't see was this:
Poor dog looking hungrily at greedy and mean dear!!
Hahaha he looks like he's ill-treating her, but actually dear was very nice to the doggie lor haha..
He gave her all his cake-like bread in his ice-cream and some got give me lah, and when he found out that she actually eats ice cream, he felt bad for not giving her that cos he thought she wouldn't eat it!
Aww.. Sweet dear.. |
 |
Ok tata! That's the end of my side of the story! Thanks to dear for guest-blogging today! Hard work eh?
